Carthago Nova - Cartagena (Murcia)

It was founded by the cartaginian Asdrúbal from the Barquidas family, fenician in 223 year b.C. He named it Qart Hadash, the new city, for distinguised it from his natal Cartago and from its beginings had a great seaworthy and commercial importance. The romans named it Carthago Nova.

It was built in the Augusto empire, about 3 b.C. year. Its dimensions are 87,90 m. of cavea and 45,80 m. of lenght. It is one of the biggest of Spain, only surpassed by the one of Mérida. It is situated in the west slope of Monte de la Concepcion, in a so privileged position than all that arrived to the city by sea enjoied a matchless view of that monument.

How to go: From Murcia city, take the N-301 road to Cartagena.
