Ildum - Cabanes (Castellón)

It looks like Cabanes was founded in the roman age as a residence in the vía Augusta.

Arco de CabanesCABANES' ARCH
II a.C. Century

It was formed by two quadrangulars pillars that sustain an semicircular arch. Its actual height is 6 meters. It was declared Historical Artistical Monument from 1931. Its meaning is commemorative, althought of a ignored fact. The legend tell that it was built to commemorate the victory of captain Lucio Marcio against  carthaginians in the year 210 b.C., in the second punic war but the actual criticism has dated it in II century a.C.

How to go: From Castellón de la Plana city take the 238 road to Cabanes. In this village there is a road to the Roman' arch.
