Was founded by August in the 15 B.C. year during cantabro and astures wars. From I century was the capital of conventus asturiacense, and one of the first cities in the northwest peninsular next to Lugo and Braga. It was placed in the cross of two importants roman ways: La Vía de la Plata and La Vía del Valle del Ebro. |
Astorga ruins
I A.C. Century
Astorga has numerous vestiges of roman times inside the city. There is a great sewer system, today in use, traces of thermal baths
and the Ergástula, a large gallery vaulted that was identified with a jail of slaves. There are also ruins of a Roman Square,
with a preserved house with a beautiful mosaic where are represented animals themes, paintings and one room in which we can
apreciated traces of heating system.
Walls of Astorga
III A.C. Century
They have a perimeter of 2500 meters and form an rectangle of 1300 meters in the east, 200 in the south, 700 in the west
and 350 in the north. The were recently restored for the celebration of two thousand years of the city.
